Sport
Sporting activities at Unity College play a vital role in pupils’ overall development. They are designed to enhance social, emotional, and physical growth while instilling essential life skills like teamwork, communication, and leadership. These activities are compulsory and integrated into the school timetable.
Our summer sport is swimming which we do in terms one and four. We have the services of an experienced, external swimming coach. Our focus is “learning to swim” rather than stroke correction or competitive swimming. We host an annual swimming gala at the end of the first term with an emphasis on participation rather than winning.
Our winter sports are soccer, volleyball, table tennis, and bocce. We encourage our pupils to try several different sports rather than to pick only one. Our annual Family Fun Day held during the second term celebrates these sports, and family members join in the matches.
The third term is devoted to athletics, culminating in our annual Sports Day towards the end of the third term. Once again, parent participation is encouraged.
Unity College is affiliated with Special Olympics South Africa (SOSA). We participate in SOSA-organised tournaments and often host the local SOSA soccer tournament.
We have enviable sporting facilities, such as a soccer field, swimming pool, bocce court, and a grassed multi-purpose court.
