Sibling Discount Policy

At Unity College, we recognise the financial commitment families make to provide a high-quality education for their children. Understanding that many of our students come from families with more than one child, we aim to support these families through our Sibling Discount Policy. This initiative is designed to ease the financial burden and encourage families to continue their partnership with our school.

Our school values the diversity and inclusivity of our student body, and we believe that aiding families with multiple children attending our institution fosters a supportive and cohesive community.

This policy outlines the eligibility criteria and the terms and conditions for sibling discounts, ensuring transparency and fairness in its implementation. The purpose of the policy is to standardise, and consistently apply, school fee discounts to sibling applications for enrolment at the school.

The policy covers the following discounts:

  • Non-refundable deposits
  • School fees
  • Discount on annual prepaid school fees

Discount on the non-refundable deposit

The full non-refundable deposit of R15 000 is due for the first child. Each subsequent child(ren) will pay a non-refundable deposit of R10 000,

School Fees

A 5% discount on the lesser school fee is available for children of families who have more than one child attending the school. The decision will be made after a discussion with the principal and/or the rector. If siblings pay the same fees, the discount will be applied to the oldest child’s fees.

Discount on school fees paid before 31 January

A 5% discount will be given to parents for payment of the annual school fees on or before 31 January each year. This may be applied to the additional sibling’s already discounted fees after a discussion with the principal and rector.

Claiming of school fees as a medical or disability expense

Although the school advises parents to seek expert opinion via a tax consultant specializing in medical matters, many parents are unaware that there is a possibility of claiming school fees, as a tax deduction. Please contact a tax practitioner to complete your tax return and claiming school and assessment fees.

For tax purposes, disability expenditure and physical impairment expenditure is governed by Section 18 of the Income Tax Act, NO 58 of 1962. A disability is defined by Section 18(3) means a moderate to severe limitation of a person’s ability to function or perform daily activities as a result of a physical, sensory, communication, intellectual or mental impairment lasting more than a year and certified by a duly registered medical practitioner.

In order to qualify for the full deduction of fees, a person must have his/her disabilities confirmed by a duly registered medical practitioner who has to complete the prescribed form ITR-DD after the tax payer has completed his/her part of the form. For further information parents may obtain an information booklet from SARS website – www.sars.gov.za or contact their tax adviser.
