The Unity College Therapy Department has thoroughly enjoyed working with all learners in the school during 2019. We would like to share a few snapshots from some of the groups over the course of the year.
In Speech Therapy groups, much fun was had by the Junior Phase learners during activities related to target words for the week and functional language stimulation.
The Occupational Therapists enjoyed facilitating fine motor skills with the Juniors, during some paper based activities to exercise the small muscles of their little hands.
During the Intermediate prevocational groups, the learners worked hard on making end products, including a beaded necklace and a paper-mâché hat. These groups are important to facilitate task concept, problem solving and decision making skills while learning how to make a good quality end product.
The Senior Phase has been learning about healthy food and made orange juice in a Speech Therapy group as well as planted some vegetables (tomatoes and spinach) in an Occupational Therapy group.
During one of the Personal Social Skills groups, the Senior LO learners learnt about appropriate outfits to cover their private parts.
We look forward to working with the learners next year and we hope they have a restful break over the holidays!
