HAPPY 31st BIRTHDAY | 01/08/1990
Reasons I’d recommend Unity College to another parent
1
Unity’s approach is centered around the child , not filling seats – Mr J
2
After years at trying various different schools, our child has finally found a place he feels comfortable and his small achievements are rewarded and that’s helping his confidence – Mr J
3
The feeling you get from all the staff is that they care for the children and that is the best starting point – Mr J
4
A safe, small teaching environment, which Unity offers is vital for our child to make progress and thrive – Mr and Mrs C
5
I would recommend Unity firstly for the access to therapy such as speech, OT, play therapy and physio. This reduces the strain on working parents to take your child after school to therapies which is very time consuming and difficult to work around your working day. You also have comfort that your child has a multi-disciplined approach to his progress and schooling – Mrs G
6
I would also recommend Unity for the homely environment and the approach that each child is individual and there isn’t any pressure to fit in a box – Mrs G
7
I also believe the school and teachers have a genuine interest in my child and have his best interests at heart – Mrs G
8
My child benefits most from a class where there is a teacher assistant present who forms part of my child’s day to day needs to be able to learn – Ms M
9
Our child is not able to follow a mainstream school curriculum and needs to be taught a Differentiated CAPS Curriculum by a specialised teacher, making use of practical demonstrations and various specialised teaching techniques, which ordinary qualified teachers do not have any knowledge of – Ms M
10
My child flourishes within the special needs school environment where Special Olympics Sports is offered tailor-made for him to participate and be chosen for the team, like bocce, table tennis, chess, volleyball, soccer, and netball. Special trained coaches assist my child on his level of performance – Ms M
11
I want my child to be guided to become a fully integrated, active member of the world of work and only the current Special Needs School environment is giving my child weekly exposure to this. Also the fact that he can remain there until he is older than a regular school would allow – Ms M
12
Our daughters learning disability requires her to attend a “Special Needs School” where they are able to give her the full time facilitation using practical demonstrations and various specialized teaching techniques required in the classroom environment and while on the sports field – her needs are met at Unity College – Mr and Mrs K
13
My child is required to be taught a Differentiated CAPS Curriculum by a specialized teacher – achieved at Unity College – Mr and Mrs K
14
Unity College’s trained personnel identify and recognize the needs which affect my daughters daily life i.e. sensory processing, regulation, anxiety, potential warning signs for seizure onset, stimming, activities to distract from stimming when her sensory system is in overdrive, daily living activities etc. – Mr and Mrs K
15
Unity College offers a small, safe teaching environment in order to make progress and for our child to thrive – Mr and Mrs K
16
At Unity College our child is being exposed to daily activities of life which will give her the life skills to hopefully enable her to be an active member of society one day. This includes teaching them about the value of money, taking them shopping, allowing them to make choices, applicable behaviour required in a shopping environment, push a trolley, wait their turn in line etc. In addition they are also exposed to physical activities involving balance, perception and transfer of skills where simple activities like kicking a ball, throwing a ball, attention and balance can be extremely challenging. Many of these activities requires hand over facilitation and hand/eye/foot co-ordination skills to be tapped into. All these activities offered are essentially the skills required between what they learn at school, preparation for and application to daily life activities that they will be exposed to in the “real world” – Mr and Mrs K
17
We want our child to be guided to become a fully integrated, active
member of the world of work and only the current Special Needs School
environment is giving our child weekly exposure to this – Mr and Mrs A
18
My child can only flourish when an Individual Development Plan, which Unity offers, is put together to address his social, emotional and academic needs – Ms L
19
My child flourishes within the special needs school environment where special sports is offered and encourages him to participate in a caring and nurturing environment – Mr and Mrs B
20
No one understands the needs and challenges of a special needs child other than their parents, teachers and caregivers that dedicate their lives to ensuring that their child is learning in an environment that takes their special needs into consideration and helps them to be the best version of themselves – Mr and Mrs B
21
Since his birth and schooling journey it has been such a challenge and heart-breaking path and we have finally found a school that has helped him in so many ways and he has grown and learnt so much – Mr and Mrs B
