Skills and Work Experience

Work Experience Programme

The Work Experience Programme at Unity College offers a unique approach for students aged 16 and older, integrating the world of work into their school day. This initiative is designed to equip students with the skills necessary to become productive, integrated members of society. By exposing students to actual workplaces, they gain valuable skills that enhance their employability.

In the Senior Phase, Tuesdays are dedicated entirely to work experience, with no classroom teaching. Students engage in work either in-house or outside the school, providing crucial exposure to real-world work environments. They work as part of a team, follow supervisor instructions, and learn to interact with co-workers and other employees.

In-House Work Experience

In-house work experience at Unity College includes activities such as filing, sorting materials, and cleaning specific areas, simulating office work. Additionally, students participate in maintaining the school vegetable garden. These tasks help students develop practical work skills while meeting the school’s operational needs.

Workplace Skills

Work experience at Unity College focuses on learning practical skills applicable to any workplace. These include:

  • Sorting
  • Measuring
  • Packing
  • Organising
  • Cleaning
