A special Unity Mother like no other. Dear Mom/Grandma. Thanks for the love you are always giving. What might have seemed daunting in the beginning. Is now a life worth living.
To the Moms who waited longer to hear the first word. Who figures out every want and need even if the message is blurred. Sitting in doctors rooms having to wait, instead of going on a play date. Who have Countless “just a bad day” days and stares from strangers. Who have read countless reports on atypical behavior. Who keeps on wondering if it’s Something I had done. Why was I picked to be a special needs Mum?
It might look and feel like a curse. Like being on a stage and you didn’t rehearse. Then comes the spontaneous hug ,a pleasant conversation. An IDP goal achieved. A teacher or therapist who believed. The successes you celebrate might not be the typical achievements like others. And you might not relate to the typical school Mothers. But instead you are celebrating longer eye contact or a proper pencil grip. A successful shopping trip.
And how do you find the energy to do all the things you do. That makes you a teacher, nurse, counselor and a superhero too. How do you do it all, be an Uber driver, chef, and friend. I just can’t comprehend. It’s easy if it’s love that makes you answer every call. Such deep love that gives you energy for it all.
Just keep walking along side them and hold their little hand. They have so many things to learn that they don’t yet understand. Every child needs a gentle hand to guide them as they grow. So walk alongside them Mom, even if it’s still a long way to go.
Advocate so you can create a world where you child will belong. Just keep going, it won’t be long. And if it gets too much. Just keep in touch. With everyone that cares and loves you.
With everyone that sees all that you do.
Unity Moms are special indeed.
Unity Moms fulfill every special need.
And on this special Mother’s Day, we just have to say… From every child, Dad, therapist or teacher.. You are one special creature!
