2019 has been a much better year for Unity College. The school has moved on from the depressed circumstances in 2018 and has turned the corner. Anyone walking onto the campus now, sees a vastly improved school to that which would have greeted them last year. Various improvements has been brought into effect this year and once again, our numbers are rising.
For the last 20 months, the school has had the benefit of a competent Headmaster, whose task has been to stabilize a very volatile situation. Deon Visser has done this excellently and at the end of this year he will hand over the baton to Mrs Retha van Niekerk, who will lead the school into the next phase of its development. We are grateful for what Deon helped us achieve.
As we look to 2020, we wish to aim at the following goals:
- To consolidate and develop our excellent staff;
- To increase our enrolment;
- To create a boarding house;
- To add a Senior/Adult Vocational Division to the school so that children in that age bracket can be given significant vocational training; and
- To add to the educational offering of our school’s curriculum.
Like all good leaders, Mrs van Niekerk will first get her feet on the ground and get to the know the staff and the functioning of the school. Then, progressively, she will devote her attention to the dreams of growing and expanding Unity College.
We would like to thank all the parents for the trust they have placed in us and assure them that they will see further improvements in the future.
We wish everybody a happy festive season and year end.
