Children with special needs – Jeanine Lamusse
August 22, 2014 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pmZAR90
Jeanine graduated Cum Laude at the University of Johannesburg when she completed her masters in Clinical Psychology. Her research was entitled “The Father’s Experience of Parenting a Traumatically Brain Injured Child”. Jeanine has had a long-standing passion for parenting work and has worked in government and in private settings with all age groups. Since opening her private practice in 2011, now based in Parkhurst, Jeanine has been building on her master’s research in order to conduct workshops for parents.
Jeanine will explore how parenting is a two way interaction between parent and child, explore the strains of parenting, the nature of bonding and bonding stressors. There is an excess of parenting literature that can leave parents confused about how to raise their children in this day and age. The talk will consider your parenting values and how to set up a respectful culture within the home around those values. Other topics included are about issues around boundaries, corporal punishment, childhood development and related psychological tasks. Some thought will also be offered around additional demands that are placed on parents of children with special needs and how to accommodate these.
Work booklets and stationary will be provided at R90, one booklet per family will be required. Light refreshments will be served.
