PROUD OF YOU ZORA!
The South African Sports Association for the Intellectually Impaired (SASA-II) National championship finished 22 March 18.
Unity Senior Phase learner Zora, swam six events in the women with Down syndrome category and received five medals.
Zora went on to take Gold in 25m Backstroke and Breast stroke heats and secured Silver in the 50m Freestyle plus 25m Butterfly and Freestyle respective events!
Dad notes that “An interesting part of the story is that she had an ongoing close competition with Minke Janse van Rensburg from the Western Cape. In Zora’s wins Minke came second and in Zora’s three second places, it was Minke who won. Two of the races between them were won by just two one hundreds of a second difference, extremely close racing“.
Zora, as well as Nicola Walker and Liam Share from our School, will swim for Gauteng in the Special Olympics South Africa National Summer Games from 5-8 April in Johannesburg.
This is going to be a tougher competition though, as they do not have a separate Down syndrome category, so they will swim against all other intellectually impaired people.
We think of all our talented swimmers and wish them only the VERY BEST!
