Eco-Schools is an international programme that was developed by the Foundation of Environmental Education (FEE) with the aim of supporting environmental learning in the classroom. In South Africa the programme is CAPS aligned which is of critical importance considering that over 50% of the content in some CAPS subjects is of an environmental nature. The programme is designed to assist educators with delivering environmental lessons to their learners. It also delivers a number of teacher workshops and training sessions each year which ensure the development of teacher skills such as developing lesson plans around environmental themes and good practice in lesson facilitation.
