On the 2nd of September, with the sun shining down on us, Unity College had an awful lot to celebrate. We celebrated the arrival of spring, we celebrated the wonderful work of our learners and we celebrated the joy of living in dance and art. Additional to all that, we celebrated the sweet success of 27 years of making a difference in the lives of young people in their journey to Dignity and Independence.
Our unique outdoor market day was once again held on our school grounds. The day was full of fun with a lot of eats, drinks, crafts and plants on sale at the vibrant stalls. Learners, with the assistance of parents, guardians and friends passionately demonstrated their business skills learnt in class. A big thank you to all who supported our learners and an equally big WELL DONE to our learners.
A kind resident of Woburn Ave, Di Griffith had this to say about her experience of our special day. “My son and I arrived 20 minutes before the Birthday cake was cut. In those brief minutes we were able to purchase the most beautiful hand beaded lanyards for my glasses made by your learners. We bought a whole lot of items including chocolate brownies for my Mom. You could just see that the children worked hard at their stalls. Honestly everything and all the tables need a special mention as they all did so well! The young man on one of the burger tables was so chuffed he only had 6 burgers left to sell, he was asking everyone to buy one of his 6, then when we did make a sale, he went on to say he only had 5 left, he was so enthusiastic and proud …. The earring / bracelet / necklace table closest to the pool area (not the one I purchased the beaded lanyards from) was so very chuffed to tell me all her bracelets and necklaces had been sold and that only earrings were left …. The spice table asked me what my favourite meat was to make sure I took the correct spice home and was so chuffed to give me my ‘free’ recipe once I’d given my tickets over. The bottled vinegar, they told me over and over that it was all recycled items and how they melted the crayons ….. Oh they were all amazing! I’m really happy that the notice board you put up advertising your day, which I shared with the community Whatsapp group brought three folk I know (who I personally saw), not counting anyone I didn’t see who may have arrived before me. I look extremely forward to attending next years’ event!”
It’s our 27th Birthday. It’s time to CELEBRATE!
